The Art Society

The Society is a non-profit organisation which holds art exhibitions, competitions and classes. It is a working gallery and has 10 monthly exhibitions some of these are Open Competitions and the remainder are for Members only.

With support of loyal sponsors the year 2015 achieved $8,900 worth of prize money and awards.

The QAS 8th Charity Art Show supporting ‘Soldier On’ was held in City Walk Canberra and even though the three days of cool, wet weather did not dampen the record number of viewers and sales at this year show. It was a huge success and the society thanks all those who supported it. This year QAS received sponsorship from the ACT Government, IMB, AnitCom, O’Malley’s Pub, Vikings Club and Copy Printers - it is this type of sponsorship that allows the Society to stage such a charity event and it is hoped that they will supply their sponsorship again next year.

Art classes are held on weekdays, weekends and evenings. They cover all mediums and some specialise in a particular subject matter. A relaxed and supportive environment is encouraged and students of all levels are welcome. Tuition costs are minimal. In addition to the regular art classes, visiting professional tutors conduct workshops throughout the year.

The Society produces a monthly newsletter keeping members informed on news and activities. At the end of the year a Calendar is produced representing one member's painting and the winners of each monthly exhibition.
