The Society is a non-profit organisation which holds art exhibitions, competitions and classes. It is a working gallery and has 11 monthly exhibitions some of these are Open Competitions and the remainder are for Members only. With support of loyal sponsors the year 2017 achieved $7,000 worth of prize money and awards. The Society produces a monthly newsletter keeping members informed on news and activities. At the end of the year a Calendar is produced representing one member’s painting and the winners of each monthly exhibition.

The 2018 11th QAS Charity Art Show will have a new site in City Walk, Canberra. It will be located between the Merry- Go-Around and the Fountain. The idea is to have more stall holders ‘around’ the Charity Art Show marquee and it is envisaged this will attract more viewers to the area. QAS will be in charge of the stall costing and positions. This year it will be open to Art-Fashions and Fair Markets. The QAS 11th Charity Art Show will be open to all artists and it will be supporting State Emergency Service. Anyone who may be interested in taking up a stall for a day or the ten days please contact the QAS secretary.

Art classes are held on weekdays, weekends and evenings. They cover all mediums and some specialise in a particular subject matter. A relaxed and supportive environment is encouraged and students of all levels are welcome. Tuition costs are minimal. In addition to the regular art classes, visiting professional tutors conduct workshops throughout the year.
