The Society is a non-profit organisation which holds art exhibitions, competitions and classes. It is a working gallery and has 11 monthly exhibitions some of these are Open Competitions and the remainder are for Members only. With support of loyal sponsors the year 2017 achieved $7,000 worth of prize money and awards. The Society produces a monthly newsletter keeping members informed on news and activities. At the end of the year a Calendar is produced representing one member’s painting and the winners of each monthly exhibition.
The QAS 10th Charity Art Show was the most successful with record sales and with the kind donation from George Young who donated 1,500 books which raised $900 dollars at our first bookstall. Motor Neurone Disease last years charity benefited from our record sales.The society thanks all the members, friends and sponsors that supported this event. Last years sponsorship was the ACT Government, , Queanbeyan Leques Club and Jenny and Richard Lawson for the hire of “Tent Art Gallery”. – it is this type of sponsorship that allows the Society to stage such a charity event.
Art classes are held on weekdays, weekends and evenings. They cover all mediums and some specialise in a particular subject matter. A relaxed and supportive environment is encouraged and students of all levels are welcome. Tuition costs are minimal. In addition to the regular art classes, visiting professional tutors conduct workshops throughout the year.
